Biotech Group specialized in the design; manufacture and marketing of medical implant devices for ophthalmology, and is focused on hyaluronic acid based medical implants for various specialties. Biotech Vision Care is a flagship company of Biotech Group specialized in the design; manufacture and marketing of medical implant devices for ophthalmology, and is focused on hyaluronic acid based medical implants for various specialties. Founded in 1998, Biotech Vision care is one of the largest manufacturers of Intraocular Lenses in the world. It has 15 branches all over India. Biotech Ophthalmics Pvt Ltd is the sister concern of Biotech Vision care. Biotech Ophthalmic offers a range of Ophthalmic Solutions for osteoarthritis treatment and for skin rejuvenation in global markets The Biotech Group employs more than 500 people and for the financial year 2008 – 09 the Group’s turnover was Rs. 250 cr.

The existing legacy system at Biotech was inadequate for growing information needs of the organization and it was lacking proper management controls. To maintain its market-leading position, the company wanted to update its existing system with a customizable solution that maximized operational efficiency. With the help of Microsoft Certified Partner Intech Systems Pvt. Ltd., Biotech Group deployed a fully integrated information infrastructure based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

Situation
Mr. Mehul Asnani - Chairman and CEO of Biotech Group proudly claims Biotech as a one of the largest manufacturers of Intraocular Lenses in the world and they were looking for a business technology solution that could be customized to improve the operational efficiency of its business processes and increase their productivity.

Over the years Bio tech vision care was relaying on Tally and Biotech Ophthalmics was using customized software to handle purchase, inventory and account functions.

With the existing system it wasn’t possible to synchronize the information among the branches located all over India. Being one of the largest companies for IOCL they wanted to have a back tracking of lances to access the quality of it. The item tracking was lacking in the existing system. There was no tracking of expired item. Biotech management also wanted to have a Machine capacity and Item capacity to be judged for the strategic point of view. Being WHO – GMP certified company Biotech wanted to have a process wise quality testing and product test certificate.

The inability to automatically link business processes meant that Biotech Key users had to manually enter data from one system to another, which could take lot of time. Moreover, the lack of automation prevented managers from gaining real-time visibility into the company’s performance. “Without a single, integrated business system, we could not efficiently complete basic analysis of our operations and we could not meet the reporting needs also” says Mr. Mehul Asnani – Chairman and CEO Biotech Group

Management at Biotech realized that the company had outgrown its existing Legacy system. To increase efficiency through elimination of manual processes and reporting capabilities, the company decided to implement a fully integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

Solution
After a careful review of various business solutions in the market, Biotech selected Microsoft Dynamics NAV software.

Now NAV helps all the branches of Biotech to access the required information online. With the help of dynamics NAV Biotech now have a better Item tracking functionality as well as management can better judge Machine capacity and item capacity. Today, Biotech can generate the needed report for WHO GMP certification.

In particular, Biotech is using Dynamics NAV to help automate and integrate critical financial, operations, customer and distribution data into a streamlined, comprehensive platform to enhance productivity among all their branches.

Intech completed initial implementation in 6 months and currently more than 100 key users (29 concurrent users) are working on Dynamics NAV.

Better reporting functionality:
Ease in extracting the right information and the tight integration between Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft® Office make management reporting easier. Now Biotech Managements no longer have to relay on the Ad – Hoc Reports Intech systems also developed reports in Dynamics NAV which is a prerequisite for WHO certifications. And makes it easier for Biotech management.

Enhanced pipeline and customer service management:
