Patel Alloy Steel Pvt. Ltd. (PASL) is a large-scale manufacturer of Graded Cast
Iron and Spheroidal (Nodular) Graphite Iron (SGI) Castings. High-quality, competitive
prices, in-time deliveries are only some of the advantages PASL offers to its customers.
Custom work is a specialty at PASL and engineers are available at the plant to service
specific customer needs.
The existing legacy system at PASL was inadequate for growing information needs
of the organization and it was lacking proper management controls. To maintain its
market-leading position, the company wanted to update its existing system with a
customizable solution that maximized operational efficiency. With the help of Microsoft
Certified Partner Intech Systems Pvt. Ltd., PASL deployed a fully integrated information
infrastructure based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

Built in 1982, starting with steel castings as main products, Patel Alloy Steel
Pvt. Ltd. (PASL) has developed different grades of SGI castings as per the market
need and established itself as a leading manufacturer of SGI casting parts on local
and global market through consistent work of high quality. The company was an early
pioneer in development of heavy weight castings for Plastic Injection Molding Machine
and Wind Turbine Generator Industry.
From its location on four closely integrated works-sites spread over 42 acres of
land and a built-up area of over 7 acres PASL has serviced both local needs and
worldwide markets. The foundry is equipped with second-to-none melting and material
handling facilities thus resulting in no limits to casting size and weight. The
maximum casting weight obtained so far is 40 tons.
PASL can supply castings in proof or final machined condition. Paint-shop facilities
are available to deliver casting in painted condition.
In the highly competitive market of industrial coatings, success depends on IT systems
that drive internal efficiencies. However, at Patel Alloys a MS DOS based accounting
system was being used along with some applications which were in isolation.
Over time, the company found that the existing legacy system was inadequate for
growing information needs of the organization and it was lacking proper management
controls.

Solution
|
According to Mr. Kamal Jhaveri, PASL, the executives wanted a fully integrated solution
that would enable employees throughout the organization to communicate more effectively
and enjoy access to timely, accurate, and comprehensive information. Also, they
wanted a solution that was based on widely used technologies and thereby familiar
to the people who would be working with it.
After considering a number of options, PASL chose Microsoft Dynamics NAV as the
solution that would best meet its needs. They chose to work together with Microsoft
Certified Partner, Intech Systems Pvt. Ltd. Intech Systems is a specialized management
and software consulting firm, which provides world class consulting and system implementation
for business problems in the areas of Information Technology, Operations Management,
Financial Management and Data Processing. A team of expert functional and technical
consultants from Intech Systems Pvt. Ltd. understood the business requirements of
PASL before recommending the new solution.
Kamalnayan Jhaveri, Managing Director, Patel Alloy Steel Pvt. Ltd. opted for a new
IT solution based on Microsoft Dynamics NAV because it was the best fit for their
operations.
Using the new solution, PASL was able to manage and control an unlimited number
of activities running within a project, streamline budgeting and resource management,
and integrate the information with financial data.
Microsoft Dynamics NAV was chosen for its performance in a number of key areas of
functionality. It offers the company a powerful, yet cost-effective solution. It
adapts easily to an organization, especially certain processes, such as accounts
receivable. Also, the solution's ability to grow with the company's needs
means it won't limit future development and growth.
The directives were given by Kamalnayan Jhaveri to implement Dynamics NAV ERP from
1st April 2005 without doing any parallel run. This was a unique case and with the
help of both the teams from Patel Alloys and Intech Systems it was implemented in
a record time of three months. However, in the first three months Accounts, Sales,
Purchase, Inventory and Payroll modules were operational. Subsequently the Production
module was implemented in two months.
Microsoft small business server was installed along with Dynamics NAV and Microsoft
SQL Server version was added to improve the company's database services.

Kamalnayan Jhaveri discussed all management controls at each stage with Intech's
team and required checks were incorporated. Jhaveri proudly claims today that whatever
investment was made in implementing Dynamics NAV ERP, 10 times the amount has been
recovered in the first year itself.

functionality businesses want and can be customized to suit specific industry needs.
"But the flexibility within Microsoft Dynamics NAV was a key reason for our
decision to use it to develop our solution. It's a total solution, with a total
support programme behind it," says Mr.Jhaveri.
Increased Productivity
Productivity levels have significantly increased at PASL. This is directly attributable
to the new solution. "With employees having vast amounts of information available
to them, we are seeing increased efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness,"
says Mr. Kamal Jhaveri "This is evidenced by the fact that our productivity
has increased by 25% percent." Employees are able to collaborate more, as they
all have access to the right information at the right time.
Improved Data Management and Reliability
PASL is able to manage all its data centrally, and duplication has been eliminated.
"Not only is the new system accurate and easy-to-use, it is also reliable,"
says Mr. Jhaveri.
Transaction volume at PASL is very high and was difficult to handle during the legacy
system. Now with the use of Dynamics NAV it is easily manageable.
Employees Work in Familiar, Easy-to-Use Environment
Microsoft Dynamics NAV is integrated into the Microsoft Office system. Therefore,
employees work in a familiar environment with Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft
Office Excel. This also reduces the required training costs by 50% percent.
Along with easy-to-use implementation tools, Microsoft Dynamics NAV also offers
an intuitive and user-friendly interface, which is quick to learn and easy to manipulate.
Increased Visibility of Taxation Requirements
VAT was introduced in Gujarat State from 19th April 2006. Microsoft Dynamics NAV
was used to ensure compliance with VAT and other taxation requirements. All other
statutory requirements such as TDS, Excise, and Service Tax were met seamlessly.

Future Plans
|
|
Patel Alloys is planning to expand their manufacturing capacity more than two times
in the next 18 months.It will be situated very near to their existing facility.
Exports will be more than two times in the next two years.
